NIOS Class 10: An Overview
NIOS 10th grade refers to the secondary level education offered by the National Institute of Open Schooling. NIOS provides the opportunity for students to earn their 10th certificate in a flexible environment, suitable for those who may have personal, financial, or geographical constraints that prevent them from attending regular schools.

Subjects in NIOS 10th
When pursuing 10th grade through NIOS, students must choose a set of subjects that meet the requirements for completing the secondary education level. NIOS provides a diverse selection of subjects across academic as well as vocational courses. Here’s an overview of the subjects available:
1. Compulsory Subjects:
NIOS 10th students must select one language subject from the following:
- Hindi
- English

In addition to a language, students must also select one Science and Social Science subject to fulfill the requirements.

Eligibility Criteria for NIOS 10th
To be eligible for the NIOS 10th exams, students must fulfill certain criteria. The candidate must have completed the 8th grade from a recognized educational institution. NIOS follows an open enrollment system, allowing flexibility for learners. Any student who meets the minimum qualification of passing the 8th grade can enroll for the 10th exams without any age restrictions. This makes the NIOS 10th program accessible to students of all age groups and backgrounds.
The NIOS 10th Examination Process
- Exam Schedule:
NIOS conducts exams twice a year, in the months of April-May and October-November. These exams are held at NIOS-approved exam centers across India and abroad. - Grading and Marking:
Students must meet the minimum passing marks for each subject. For those who are not able to pass the exam in one attempt, NIOS allows them to reappear for the exam in subsequent periods without having to reapply for admission. - Assessment:
NIOS focuses on continuous evaluation and the examination results are based on regular assessments and the final exams held bi-annually. In addition to the final exam results, NIOS evaluates internal assessments or practical work when applicable to the subject.
